Whether it’s Himalayan, Dead Sea, Epsom or even Cornish Natural Sea Salts - they all have one thing in common...
Bathing in Sea Salt is fantastic for your skin!
Here we give you the run-down on why so many skin experts swear by this natural gem!
Bathing in Sea Salts has been a tradition for centuries. The Ancient Egyptians are reported to have visited the Dead Sea purely for the therapeutic benefits of the salt water - Cleopatra was a big fan! With so many health and skin benefits we’re beginning to see why. The list of proven medicinal benefits is fairly long, but the most common include:

Why are Natural Bath Salts so good for skin?
Sea Salt contains over 60 different natural minerals that are fantastic for our skin and muscles, including Calcium, Sodium, Chloride, Bromide, Magnesium, Zinc and Potassium. All these amazing minerals are absorbed by your skin cells (through Osmosis if you want to start getting really technical). This is the key to keeping your skin soft and supple. When you don’t have the right mineral balance, your skin can become dry, dull, blotchy and irritated (especially in the colder months). A couple of soaks a week in a good quality Natural Bath Salt tops up your skin's mineral levels keeping it hydrated and healthy. |
Hydrated??? Really??
Despite what some people think, good quality, mineral-rich sea salt doesn’t actually dry the skin out. Those amazing minerals we keep mentioning are hygroscopic, meaning they attract moisture, as well as strengthening the skin’s barrier function (keeping that moisture locked in). Add a layer of good quality natural moisturiser after a salt bath soak, and your skin will be protected and moisturised for the entire day (if not longer).
Acne? What acne?As well as hydrating and balancing your skin’s mineral levels, Sea Salt also helps draw out impurities and toxins from your skin. Sufferers of body acne (in particular “backne”) should try bathing a couple of times a week in natural sea salt to help detoxify and clean excess oil from pores in those hard to reach places. Pick a salt with other cleansing and antibacterial ingredients such as Tea Tree, Lavender and Bergamot Essential Oils and you’ll have a pretty effective natural acne treatment. A Gentle ScrubberNatural Sea Salt is a great exfoliator. Tip: When you're in the bath or shower, grab and handful of salt, add a bit of warm water to slightly dissolve the salt and gently rub in circles all over your body. Make sure you use a salt with finer or more rounded crystals so you don't scratch your skin - or use a Buffer Bag (there'll be more about that in a future post!). | Bath Salts for Acne & Oily SkinLavender and Ylang Natural Dead Sea Bath Salts

How much Bath Salt should I use?
We sell all our bath salts and soaks in 100g packs, so you’re not opening a large container and your salts will always be at their freshest. This is normally enough for one to two baths, however if you have sensitive skin or are using the salts to help a minor skin condition, build up the amount you use (and always seek professional advice first if you are prone to outbreaks). Start with ¼ of a pack (25g), then ½ pack, and so on. Listen to your skin - if it feels irritated, cut down the amount of salts used and frequency of your baths till you find the right balance. Even tiny amounts of the sea salt in your bath can be beneficial for your skin, so don't be afraid to start small and build it up.
We could go on…
There’s so much more we could tell you about the benefits of different kinds of Sea Salts, which salts are better for different skin types and ailments, plus more tips and tricks for getting the most out of your natural bath salts. Look out for future blog posts where we’ll explain all!
